Container Wax Estimator

Instructions:

  1. Set your empty container on the scale
  2. Zero or tare it out (make sure scale is set to ounces)
  3. Fill the container to your desired wax level with water
  4. Enter the water weight below

Water weight to wax weight

This tool uses water weight × 0.86. A container holding 10 ounces of water at your intended fill level gives an estimated wax fill weight of 8.60 ounces.

Treat this as a planning estimate, then confirm the fill weight with your actual wax and recipe. Empty and thoroughly dry the container before candle making.

For your planned finished weight, use the Fragrance Oil Calculator to calculate the base and fragrance oil amounts.

Container wax questions

How do I measure water weight for my candle jar?

Place the empty container on a scale set to ounces and tare it. Fill it with water to your intended candle fill level, then enter the water weight.

What formula does the estimator use?

Estimated wax fill weight in ounces equals water weight in ounces multiplied by 0.86. For example, 10 ounces of water gives an estimated wax fill weight of 8.60 ounces.

Is the wax fill weight exact?

No. The 0.86 factor is an estimate. Your actual fill weight can vary with your wax blend, fragrance and fill level, so confirm it with your own container and formula.

Can I calculate fragrance oil from the estimated fill weight?

Use the Fragrance Oil Calculator to split a planned finished product weight into base and fragrance oil. Its percentage is based on the base weight before fragrance.
